Bio: I was raised a Catholic until the age of thirteen. I believe it was there that I developed such a strong, abiding faith in God and an understanding that faith without works is dead. Our family moved near Placerville, California and started attending a small country church when I entered high school. It was in a youth meeting at that church that I realized Jesus’ salvation work on the cross was all I needed to be assured of eternal life with Him. My walk with him was solid throughout high school, but became an on-again off-again relationship during my first two years of college. My life changed in many ways when I met Linda, now my wife, near the end of that second year. I was able to lead her to the Lord. That not only changed her life forever, but my relationship with the Lord became strong again as a result.

It was about three years later, after an Army tour, that we moved to Chico to finish my schooling. About a year later, during a camping trip, which involved nightly readings from the word together, Linda and I decided to dedicate our lives working for the Lord in any capacity He needed.

In between all our volunteer time, I have been teaching science at Pleasant Valley High School since 1975, and Linda and I raised three children of our own, Mike, Christy, and Jahn, and about 20 foster children.

You Would Never Think: I was in the "Secret War" in Laos, during the Vietnam war. I worked with the CIA doing spy work on the Ho Chi Minh Trail once a month for a few days, but mostly I did communications.

Favorite books, CD's, movies: My favorite books are historical books. I'm currently reading "Wanderings," by Chaim Potok, a history of the Jews. It should take me a while. My favorite rock music is from Credence Clearwater Revival, pop music would have to be ABBA, and Christian music is almost anything from Bill Gaither or Amy Grant. I love movies in general, but I would have to say the one that has impacted my life the most is "To Sir, with Love." It moved my life in the direction of teaching, which I love.

Hobbies: I like traveling, hiking, golf, gardening, and fishing. We used to do a lot of camping when our children were young…not so much anymore.

Favorite Scripture: Besides John 3:16, which led me to the Lord, I would say Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
